This Kilim originates from South-eastern Turkey in the town of Gaziantep, Gazi meaning "Defender of the Faith". Kilims are generally woven from cotton or fine wool and the larger ones are pieced together from two halves. The Gaziantep designs feature horizontal bands of differing colors often filled with diamond shaped emblems and star motifs. The six pointed star decorating this kilim is known as the "seal of Solomon", which has been used since Phrygian times.
