21 x 10 x 9.5 ″Hand carved of hardwood and pigment.This extraordinary mask was designed and constructed by the Baule People, an agrarian culture identified within the larger, Akan ethnic group of the Republic of Ivory Coast. The graceful face of this object is painted in several stages, and with age, painted parts naturally erode. The mask is crowned with three carved birds -. a “tap” and two hens: each finely wrought and painted in natural colors.
