This Persian “Senneh” carpet was designed and constructed by the Kurdish People of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Persian and Kurdish culture are world renowned for their carpet and textile artistry. This carpet is composed of the poetic “Herati” pattern, a geometrical and symmetrical configuration that is stunning in appearance. This piece may also be interpreted as a “pictorial carpet” or “rug tableau.” That is, it is designed to be hung on the wall (or laid on the floor). The process of stylizing and preserving the form of such textiles requires a deep knowledge of craft as transmitted via oral tradition through centuries in Kurdish culture.
