Persian Carpet (People of the Islamic Republic of Iran)

W 4'-1" x L 6'-7"Hand woven of Kurk wool and Mulberry silk; Persian knots employed. This “Habibian” carpet was designed and constructed by master weavers of the city of Nain in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Persian culture is world renowned for its textile artistry. Nain carpets are specifically reputed for three outstanding qualities: material, craft, and knot density. This piece is distinguished by a flower-like motif in the center that is extrapolated throughout in differing dimensions, rendering it stunningly attractive. This object is also known as a “pictorial carpet” or “rug tableau.” That is, it is designed to be hung on the wall (or laid on the floor). The process of stylizing and preserving the form of such textiles requires a deep knowledge of craft as transmitted via oral tradition through centuries in Persian culture.
