Serapi Carpet (Iran)

W 9'-3" X L 12'-1"Hand knotted of virgin New Zealand wool; vegetable dye employed, high thread count.

This Serapi design carpet was designed and constructed by master carpet weavers in Agra, India. Persian culture is world renowned for their extraordinary carpets and textiles. This brilliantly, colorful piece features a classic medallion/corner design with a poetic, vernacular quality, whereby floral and leaf shapes are symmetrically paired on either side. Such a spirit is multiplied by the carpet's sunset reds, apricot, with navy and ivory highlights that are ineffably balanced by a subtle range of mid-toned blues. The spaciously presented, casual rosette border, reminiscent of the neighboring Bakshaish artistic tradition, supports this rug’s balanced aesthetic whereby every blossom is a new variation on the theme.
