Serapi Carpet, Persian design, hand-knotted in India

Serapi Carpet, Persian design, hand-knotted in India

W 9'-3" X L 12'-1"Hand knotted of virgin New Zealand wool; vegetable dye employed, high thread count. This Serapi carpet of Persian design was constructed by master carpet weavers in Agra, India. This brilliantly, colorful piece features a classic medallion/corner design with a poetic, vernacular quality, whereby floral and leaf shapes are symmetrically paired on either side. Such a spirit is multiplied by the carpet's sunset reds, apricot, with navy and ivory highlights that are ineffably balanced by a subtle range of mid-toned blues. The spaciously presented, casual rosette border, reminiscent of the neighboring Bakshaish artistic tradition, supports this rug’s balanced aesthetic whereby every blossom is a new variation on the theme.
