Description
This mother-of-pearl wedding chest was made in the mid-20th century. It was found in Beirut and carefully restored by NOA Living. The chest is built from solid walnut and decorated with inlaid mother-of-pearl and bone. At the center is a large round medallion. This shape stands for unity, eternity, and light in Middle Eastern design.
Around the medallion are flowers, vines, and leaf shapes. These patterns are symbols of paradise, beauty, and growth. They are common in Near East art and show the blessings of marriage and family. The chest’s soft glow comes from the pearl inlay. It shines against the warm brown color of the wood.
The design continues on the lower edge and sides. Small seed shapes and repeating patterns were used to bring protection and good luck. The layout is calm and open, not too crowded. This makes the chest feel both strong and graceful.
Long ago, chests like this held a bride’s gifts and clothing. They were passed down from one generation to the next. Today, this one has been restored with care at NOA Living’s atelier in Beirut. It keeps its original charm while shining again in modern spaces.
