Armoire (In the Style of the Ming Dynasty, People's Republic of China)

35 x 66 x 21 ″Hand painted of elmwood with iron trim. This piece was constructed in the style of the Ming dynasty (1368 to 1644) in the People's Republic of China. The process of designing and preserving the form of such objects requires a deep knowledge of craft as transmitted via oral tradition over centuries. Accordingly, great care was taken regarding the choice of materials for this Armoire. It utilizes a diffuse-porous, hardwood with high durability and density. The wood species also required an attractive grain design, warm color, and durable enough to withstand biological degradation (Yuegi 1988). REFERENCES: Yuegi, W. 1988.
